The work of Transformative Language Arts is rooted in community.

Hosted by TLAN volunteer and practitioner Elizabeth Shepley, this September Sampler Pop-Up offers a welcoming, supportive space to connect with fellow practitioners and get a true taste of our upcoming October class lineup.

Rather than presentation slides or sales pitches, instructors from some upcoming classes will offer short, hands-on mini-sessions, reflective prompts, and creative exercises to help you explore the transformational power of words.

Flow of the Session:

  • Opening (10 min): Guided by TLAN member and practitioner Sarah Sadie, we’ll center ourselves through meditation and speak our presence into the space.

  • The Sampler: Experiential mini-activities and prompts led directly by TLA class facilitators.

  • Closing (10 min): Led by Sarah Sadie, an open popcorn-style conversation to harvest our takeaways and aha moments.

Who Should Participate?

Whether you are a seasoned TLA practitioner, a curious newcomer, or someone passionate about using words for healing, change, or community building, this space is open to you. Join us to connect, explore, and find inspiration alongside others who share your passion.

The TLA Network exists to support and promote individuals and organizations that use the spoken, written, or sung word as a tool for personal and community transformation.

The Transformative Language Arts Network (TLAN) is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in our offerings, organization, and aspirations. Words have the power to question, subvert, and transform limiting cultural narratives as well as reinforce entrenched stories and stereotypes. The TLA Network wants to make clear that we celebrate and uplift conversations across identity and difference, whether rooted in race, religion, social class, ethnicity, disability, health, gender, sexual orientation, age, military service, and other identities.
